Gum Treatment in Hyderabad

Treatment for bleeding gums, gingivitis, periodontitis and advanced gum disease, led by an MDS periodontist.

Gum disease treatment ranges from professional teeth scaling for early-stage gingivitis to advanced periodontal procedures for severe gum disease. At Dr. Spandana’s Dentistry, every treatment plan begins with a periodontal examination to identify the stage of the disease and recommend the most appropriate care.

Signs you may need a gum treatment

Gum disease usually progresses slowly over time. Most patients visit us at one of these four stages, and treatment becomes more complex the longer it is left untreated.

Stage 1 - Early Stage

Bleeding when you brush or floss

The earliest sign of gingivitis. The gums are inflamed, but the supporting bone is still healthy. Professional cleaning and good oral hygiene can usually reverse it. Learn about bleeding gums.

Stage 2 - Progressing Stage

Swollen, tender gums or persistent bad breath

Inflammation has progressed. Professional treatment is usually needed to stop the disease before it reaches the supporting tissues.

Stage 3 - Advanced Stage

Receding gums or teeth that look longer

Early periodontitis. The gums and supporting bone have started to recede. Treatment focuses on stopping further damage.

Stage 4 - Severe Stage

Loose teeth or gaps appearing

Advanced periodontitis. Significant bone loss has occurred, and advanced periodontal treatment is often required to preserve the teeth.

If you notice any of these signs, the next step is a periodontal examination. Early treatment is usually simpler, more predictable, and less invasive than waiting until the disease progresses.

A periodontal examination can identify the stage of gum disease and the most appropriate treatment.

Gum Disease Treatment Options

Each stage of gum disease has an appropriate treatment. After a periodontal examination, we’ll recommend the simplest effective option based on the stage of your condition

Professional Cleaning
(Scaling and Polishing)

Suitable for: Stage 1 (Gingivitis)

Professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar from above and just below the gum line, followed by polishing and personalised home care advice. Most early gum disease improves with professional cleaning and good oral hygiene.

Deep Cleaning
(Scaling and Root Planing)

Suitable for: Stage 2 and Early Stage 3

When plaque and tartar extend below the gum line, deep cleaning removes these deposits and smooths the tooth roots to help the gums heal. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthesia and is usually completed over one or two visits.

Gum Infection Management

Suitable for: Active gum infection or abscess

Where infection or swelling is present, treatment may include drainage, targeted antibiotics where appropriate, and professional cleaning to control the underlying cause. This is used alongside periodontal treatment rather than as a replacement for it.

Advanced Periodontal Procedures

When gum disease has progressed beyond what non-surgical treatment can predictably manage, advanced periodontal procedures may be recommended.

Not every advanced gum condition requires surgery. Treatment is planned after a full periodontal examination, and we recommend the least invasive approach that provides the best long-term outcome.

Advanced gum disease can affect the bone supporting the teeth and may eventually lead to tooth loss. If you are considering dental implants, adequate gum and bone health needs to be assessed before dental implant treatment.

What to expect after Gum Disease Treatment?

Recovery after gum disease treatment depends on the procedure performed and the severity of your condition. Most patients experience mild tenderness or sensitivity for a few days after treatments such as teeth scaling and deep cleaning, while advanced periodontal procedures may require a longer healing period. Dr. Spandana will provide personalised aftercare instructions, explain what is normal during recovery, and schedule follow-up visits to monitor healing, helping your gums recover comfortably and reducing the risk of the disease returning

Why Choose a Periodontist for Gum Disease Treatment

Periodontics is the dental specialty dedicated to preventing, diagnosing, and treating gum disease and the supporting structures around the teeth. A periodontist has advanced training to assess the health of your gums, bone, and supporting tissues and manage conditions ranging from gingivitis and bleeding gums to periodontitis, gum recession, and bone loss. This specialist evaluation helps identify the extent of disease and plan treatment based on your individual condition, with the least invasive approach appropriate for your long term oral health.

Gum disease can often be managed effectively when identified and treated at the right stage. If you are experiencing bleeding gums, gum recession, persistent bad breath, or other changes in your gums, a periodontal evaluation can help determine what treatment, if any, is needed.

FAQs

Gum treatment at Dr. Spandana’s Dentistry starts from ₹1,500 for professional teeth scaling. The final cost depends on the stage of gum disease and the treatment required. Early-stage gum disease may only need scaling, while more advanced cases may require deep cleaning or periodontal procedures. You’ll receive a written treatment plan and itemised estimate before treatment begins.
Professional teeth scaling at Dr. Spandana’s Dentistry starts from ₹1,500. Scaling removes plaque and tartar from above and just below the gum line, helping treat early gum disease and reduce bleeding gums. During your examination, we’ll let you know whether scaling alone is enough or whether more advanced treatment is recommended.
Scaling and root planing, often called deep cleaning, is a non-surgical treatment for gum disease. It removes plaque, tartar, and bacteria from below the gum line and smooths the root surfaces to help the gums heal and reattach to the teeth. It is commonly recommended for moderate gum disease when professional scaling alone is no longer enough.
Pyorrhea is an older term commonly used to describe advanced gum disease (periodontitis). It occurs when infection damages the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, which may lead to loose teeth if left untreated. Treatment depends on the stage of the disease and may include deep cleaning, infection management, or advanced periodontal procedures to control the disease and preserve your natural teeth.
Bleeding gums are often the earliest sign of gum disease and should not be ignored. In many cases, early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) can be reversed with professional cleaning and good oral hygiene. If gum disease has progressed to periodontitis, treatment focuses on controlling the disease and preventing further damage.
Most gum treatments are performed using modern techniques and local anaesthesia where required, making them comfortable for most patients. Professional scaling usually causes little discomfort, while deep cleaning and advanced procedures are carried out under local anaesthesia. We’ll explain each step and ensure you’re comfortable throughout your treatment.
Once gum tissue has receded naturally, it does not usually grow back on its own. The priority is to stop the progression of gum disease and protect the remaining gum and bone. In suitable cases, gum grafting procedures may help restore areas of recession and improve both function and appearance.

Bleeding gums are not normal, even if they only occur while brushing or flossing. If the bleeding continues for more than a few days, is accompanied by swelling, bad breath, or gum recession, it’s time to have your gums examined. Early treatment is usually simpler and helps prevent more advanced gum disease.

Yes. Laser periodontal therapy may be recommended for certain gum conditions where it is clinically appropriate. Not every patient benefits from laser treatment, so we’ll assess your gum health first and recommend the treatment approach that offers the most predictable long-term outcome.
Early gum disease can often be managed with professional cleaning. If gum disease has progressed, you have receding gums, loose teeth, or require advanced periodontal treatment, a periodontist has additional specialist training in diagnosing and treating diseases of the gums and supporting bone. We’ll recommend the most appropriate care based on your condition.
The length of treatment depends on the stage of gum disease. Professional scaling is often completed in a single appointment, while deep cleaning or advanced periodontal treatment may require more than one visit. During your consultation, we’ll explain your treatment plan, expected timeline, and any follow-up care that may be needed.
