What is Dental Implant ?

A Dental Implant is an artificial tooth root used to replace a missing tooth. It is a small titanium screw that is surgically placed into your jawbone, where it gradually fuses with the bone to provide a strong and stable foundation for a replacement tooth. Once healing is complete, a custom-made crown is attached to the implant, restoring the appearance, function, and feel of a natural tooth.

At Dr. Spandana's Dentistry, a trusted dental implant clinic in Hyderabad, we have helped hundreds of patients from Hyderabad, across India, and internationally, including the USA, UAE, and UK, restore their smiles with dental implants. Every treatment is personally planned and performed by Dr. Spandana Sripada, a Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), one of the highest credentials in implant dentistry worldwide.

There are several benefits of dental implants over bridges or dentures. To name a few:

  • One of the standout advantages of dental implants is their unique ability to preserve healthy surrounding teeth. Unlike other tooth replacement options, implants are placed directly in the jawbone, leaving your natural teeth untouched. This means that any missing teeth will be replaced permanently without compromising the health of your existing teeth.
  • With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. They are made of biocompatible materials like titanium, which integrate with the jawbone and provide a sturdy foundation for teeth.
  • Dental implants function like natural teeth, allowing you to chew your favorite foods confidently. This can improve your ability to eat various foods and maintain a balanced diet.
  • When a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone may deteriorate over time. Dental implants help stimulate bone growth and prevent bone loss, maintaining the shape and density of the jawbone.
  • Unlike removable dentures requiring special cleaning solutions and techniques, dental implants can be cared for just like natural teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups are typically needed to maintain oral health with implants.
  • Conventional dentures, even though they may be inexpensive, will have to be replaced every few years because the material with which they are made has the property to wear off. While the initial cost of dental implants may be higher than other tooth replacement options, their longevity and minimal maintenance requirements can make them a cost-effective solution in the long run. With proper maintenance, they can last you for a lifetime.

Is an Implant the Right Solution for Your Tooth?

When a tooth is missing or cannot be predictably saved, a dental implant is often an excellent long-term solution.

But not every tooth that's giving you trouble actually needs to come out, and not every patient who walks in thinking they need an implant actually does.

Before recommending an implant, we first determine whether your natural tooth can still be saved with a root canal, dental crown, or gum treatment. We believe your tooth, your bite, and your bone are all connected, and removing a tooth is never a decision to rush.

We've met many patients who came to us after being told that extraction and an implant were their only option. In some cases, that recommendation was the right one. In others, the tooth could still be saved.

Already been told you need an implant ?

Is an Implant the Right Solution for Your Tooth? If you've already been advised to undergo implant treatment, you're welcome to seek a second opinion.

Bring your X-rays, CBCT scan, or treatment plan, and Dr. Spandana will carefully review your case with you. If an implant is the best long-term solution, she'll explain exactly why. If your tooth can still be predictably saved, she'll discuss those options too.

Implants with Bone Graft

If bone density is insufficient, a bone graft procedure rebuilds the foundation needed for a successful implant. We offer bone graft and membrane procedures.

What are the benefits of Dental Implant?

Preserve Healthy Teeth. Unlike a dental bridge, an implant replaces the missing tooth without affecting the healthy teeth beside it.

Long-Term Solution. With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, dental implants can last for many years, often decades.

Eat with Confidence. Dental implants function like natural teeth, making it easier to chew comfortably and enjoy your favourite foods again.

Protect Your Jawbone. Dental implants stimulate the jawbone, helping reduce the bone loss that naturally follows tooth loss.

Easy to Maintain. Brush, floss, and care for your implant just as you would your natural teeth. No special cleaning routine is required.

A Worthwhile Long-Term Investment. Although implants cost more initially than some alternatives, their durability and minimal maintenance often make them a better long-term solution.

Dental implant treatment is carefully planned and completed over several stages to ensure predictable, long-term results. Here's what you can expect from your first consultation through to your final restoration and long-term follow-up.
01
Consultation & Planning
Your journey begins with a thorough examination including digital X-rays and, where needed, a 3D CBCT scan to assess bone density and jaw anatomy. Dr. Spandana personally reviews your scans, explains your options, and presents detailed treatment plans with transparent pricing. No pressure.
02
Implant Placement Surgery Process
The implant (titanium post) is surgically placed into your jawbone under local anaesthesia. The procedure typically takes around 60–120 minutes, depending on the number of implants being placed and the complexity of your treatment. Before treatment begins, Dr. Spandana explains every step so you know exactly what to expect.
03
Healing & Bone Integration (Osseointegration)
Over the next 3–4 months, the implant gradually fuses with your jawbone through a natural process called osseointegration, creating a strong and stable foundation for your new tooth. During this healing phase, you'll usually wear a temporary restoration while your implant heals. We monitor your progress closely through regular follow-up appointments.
04
Crown Placement
A custom-made dental crown, carefully matched to the colour, shape, and size of your natural teeth, is fixed onto the implant. This becomes your permanent tooth replacement, restoring your smile, comfort, and ability to chew naturally. Your implant can be cared for much like a natural tooth, with regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups.
05
Aftercare & Long-Term Follow-Up
Regular check-ups, professional cleaning, and long-term monitoring are an important part of implant care. With good oral hygiene, regular maintenance, and the right clinical care, dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution for replacing missing teeth. Our relationship with you doesn't end when your crown is placed. We continue to monitor your implant to help keep it healthy for years to come.

Looking after your implant is just as important as placing it well. We'll guide you through every stage of recovery and long-term maintenance to help protect your investment.

A Lifetime Investment
Dental implants are designed to function, feel, and look like natural teeth. With proper planning, expert placement, and regular maintenance, they provide one of the most predictable and long-lasting solutions in modern dentistry.

Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery after dental implant surgery varies from person to person, but most patients experience only mild discomfort that can usually be managed with the medications and aftercare instructions we provide. The implant then needs time to heal and integrate naturally with the jawbone before the final crown is placed, helping create a stable, long-lasting foundation for your new tooth.

Caring for a dental implant is much like caring for your natural teeth. Good oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups, and following your dentist's advice are important for long-term success. For a detailed guide covering recovery timelines, eating, brushing, activity, and healing milestones, read our Dental Implant Aftercare Guide.

FAQs

Beyond just filling a gap, a missing tooth left untreated affects how you chew, how your jaw bone holds up over time, and even how your face looks as that bone starts to thin. An implant fuses with your jawbone the way a natural tooth root does, so it stops that bone loss rather than just hiding the gap. It is also the only option that does not rely on your other teeth for support, your existing teeth are left alone, untouched.

All three systems are clinically proven and internationally approved. Israeli and Korean systems deliver excellent results at accessible prices. American and European systems like Zimmer carry a global reputation and extended documentation. Dr. Spandana recommends the most suitable option after assessing your specific case,  there is no one-size-fits-all answer.

In many cases, yes. A bone graft procedure can rebuild bone density needed for a successful implant. Dr. Spandana assesses your bone levels with a CBCT scan and advises whether grafting is required. Many patients who were turned away elsewhere have had successful implants here after bone grafting.

All three replace all teeth in one jaw using implants. All-on-4 uses 4 implants and is ideal for patients with limited bone. All-on-6/7 uses 6 or 7 implants for greater stability and is our most recommended option. All-on-8 uses 8 implants for maximum support in patients with good bone density for long term successful results. The right choice depends on your bone density and clinical assessment.

Most adults in good general health qualify. Key requirements are adequate bone density, healthy gums, and no uncontrolled systemic conditions. The best way to know is a free consultation with Dr. Spandana,  she will assess your case and give you an honest answer with no pressure to proceed.

Less painful than most patients expect. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and most patients experience minimal discomfort , comparable to a tooth extraction. We also use anxiety management techniques for nervous patients. Post-surgery soreness typically resolves within 3–5 days with prescribed medication.

Dental implants can last 20+ years, and with great care, they can last a lifetime! They’re made of super-strong titanium and don’t decay like natural teeth.

Usually, the implant will not need to be replaced unless there’s an issue. However, due to wear, the crown (the visible tooth) may need replacing after 10–15 years.

Yes, this is exactly what All-on-4, All-on-6/7, and All-on-8 are for, replacing an entire jaw using a strategically placed set of implants rather than one implant per missing tooth. Which option fits depends on how much bone you have and how much support your bite needs, Dr. Spandana will assess this and tell you honestly which one is right for your case, not just the one that sounds most advanced.

Like any surgical procedure, dental implants carry some risks , like delayed healing, or the implant not integrating fully with the bone. These complications are uncommon and can often be reduced with careful planning, appropriate case selection, and following your aftercare instructions. During your consultation, we’ll explain any factors that may affect your treatment and answer your questions before you decide to proceed.

From implant placement to crown fixing, the process typically takes 3–4 months using a conventional

Typically, one implant replaces one tooth. However, implant-supported bridges and dentures can replace multiple teeth.

The cost of dental implants at Dr. Spandana’s Dentistry, Hyderabad depends on several factors, including the type of implant, the number of implants needed, bone condition, and whether additional procedures like bone grafting or sinus lift are required.

On average, a single dental implant in Hyderabad typically starts from 45,000 INR depending on the system and treatment plan. At Dr. Spandana’s Dentistry, we use high-quality, internationally approved implant systems to ensure long-lasting, safe, and natural results.

It depends on the condition of your teeth. If the neighbouring teeth are healthy, a dental implant usually preserves more natural tooth structure because it doesn’t require adjacent teeth to be filed down for support. However, in some situations, a dental bridge may still be the better option. During your consultation, Dr. Spandana will explain which treatment offers the most predictable long-term outcome for your mouth.

Yes, full-mouth dental implants are common and safe when done by qualified professionals.

A dental implants is not just a tooth. It is your confidence to smile, eat and speak freely for the rest of your life. At Dr.Spandana’s Dentistry, we only recommend an implant when it is genuinely the right answer for your tooth, and once it is, your journey is planned without rushing, performed with expertise, and followed up on for as long as you need us.
